International Students

West Kentucky Community and Technical College (WKCTC) welcomes international students.

WKCTC, a part of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) and is located in Paducah, Kentucky, is a two year, Associate Degree, granting institution.

All students commute to and from the campus and must provide their own mode of transportation. The college does not provide on-campus housing. In addition to the general admission requirements, every non-resident alien applicant must meet the overall requirements, standards, and guidelines of local and national immigration laws/regulations in order to be granted student visa status.

In order to receive a Form I-20 for an F-1 student visa, students must submit all of the following documents to the Director of Admissions Office (WKCTC):

  1. An Application for Admission and an Application for Form I-20.
  2. Official transcripts from previous schools including high school and university. Include English translation if necessary. Students who attended a college or university outside of the U.S. must submit an official course-by-course evaluation of their transcript from one of the following international transcript evaluation services: Educational Credential Evaluators at www.ece.org or World Education Services at www.wes.org.
  3. Proof of English proficiency. Proof may be any of the following:

    • TOEFL. The minimum TOEFL score for admission is 173, 500 paper based, and 61 internet based. Test results must be sent to WKCTC directly from the testing service. The test scores must not be older than 18 months. The TOEFL institutional code for WKCTC is 8705. For more information about the TOEFL visit www.toefl.org.
    • MELAB (Michigan English Language Assessment Battery-minimum score 73) Official test results must be sent to WKCTC directly from the testing service.
    • College English 101 and 102. Completion of College English 101 and 102 or its equivalent with a minimum grade of B in each course from an accredited American institution.
  4. Immunization Report and Medical History Form. This form must be completed and signed by a health care professional within the past 12 months. It is acceptable to attach photocopies of original medical documents if they are signed by a health care professional. Include English translations if necessary.
  5. Proof of Financial Support. Because studying and living in the United States can be a very expensive endeavor, it is important that students and their sponsors have a realistic understanding of the costs involved. The actual cost of living is dependant upon the lifestyle of each student. Students and sponsors should develop a long-term plan to cover the cost of a U.S education. F-1 visa students must submit proof that they have immediate access to one full academic year (9 months) of tuition and living expenses, $18,500. Students who will bring their family must show an additional $4000 for their spouses and $2000 for each child. Financial aid is NOT available to F-1 students. Please read the Expenses Explanation carefully and complete the enclosed forms. Be sure to attach all additional documentation and make sure that all forms have been properly signed. Incomplete documentation will not be accepted.

  6. Transfer Report and copies of current I-20, I-94 card, and visa for students transferring from a U.S. institution. An Official Transcript (student copy is not accepted) of course work completed at a U.S. institution must be mailed directly to WKCTC's Registrars Office.

Because it can take several weeks to obtain an F-1 visa, students who currently live outside the United States should submit all of the required documents no later than the following dates:

  • June 15 for Fall Semester Admission (begins in August)

  • November 1 for Spring Semester Admission (begins in January) In addition to offering career programs that are open admissions, WKCTC offers career programs in the health fields that are selective admissions. Because of limited enrollment students must meet the selective admissions guidelines for these programs. Additional information about the college's programs is accessible on the college's website, www.westkentucky.kctcs.edu. We appreciate your interest in WKCTC and hope this information will assist you with the preparation of the required documentation.
