GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT TRANSFERRING
General Education Transfer Policy
Each
public institution in Kentucky recognizes the professional
integrity of all other public institutions in the acceptance
of their general education program. The General Education
Transfer Policy was developed in 1996 and allows students
to receive general education certification in broad academic
areas rather than on a course-by-course basis. As a result,
transferring students are only required to take additional
general education courses if the receiving institution
requires additional general education courses in the
core or in a particular major.
Complete
one term or two full years at WKCTC, then transfer to
a four-year institution. Block
transfer enables students in good academic standing
to transfer 33 credit hours as either "Core" or "Category"
certified, or 48 credit hours as "Fully General Education
Certified." Students who successfully complete at least
60 semester hours of work in major fields or professional
curricula are awarded the Associated in Arts or Associate
in Science degree and are able to transfer 60 credit
hours. Curriculum guides for the Associate
in Arts and Associate
in Science degrees are available here.
The
full text of the General Education Transfer Policy is
available on the Council
on Postsecondary Education's web site. In addition
to the General Education Transfer Policy, Kentucky's
public colleges and universities have developed transfer
frameworks and agreements to assist students who know
what degree they want to plan their college coursework
for transfer to a 4-year baccalaureate degree program.
Transfer frameworks are also available on the Council
on Postsecondary Education's web site.
Currently enrolled students should talk to their
assigned advisors about transfer options. Students without
an assigned advisor should contact the WKCTC
Advising Center staff at 270-534-3408.
