Welcome to the Local Labor Market Area # 1
School to Careers Consortium
Meet your school district's consortium leaders!
"Better student understanding of how academic
skills are applied to careers,"
"Higher expectations,"
"Higher standards,"
"More opportunities."
These and similar comments were some of the typical responses
from the five school districts in the labor market area when asked for their
overall assessment of the impact School-To-Work has had on each district.
We sat down recently with each district superintendent
and other school supervisors and requested his or her valuable input on
how the STW Initiative has been received in each district; what it has helped
to develop or enhance; what kind of outcomes can be associated with it;
and, most importantly, what each envisions for its future accomplishments.

BALLARD COUNTY
"...teachers who get involved in STW activities come
back excited and their students get excited when they
can demonstrate practical applications of the subject
matter."
CARLISLE COUNTY
"...as parents become more engaged in their children's
education, they are more encouraged to focus on career planning
at an earlier age thus increasing their children's future
opportunities for success in the workplace."
MARSHALL COUNTY
"The support from School-to-Careers in assisting with special school projects, such as school-based enterprises, career exploration, and teacher fellowships, add relevance to what is being taught in the classroom." |
MCCRACKEN COUNTY
"The partnership
between business/industry and education needs to be more visible."
PADUCAH INDEPENDENT
"...while the
great American dream may be a college degree, it is not for everyone and
other options are available.... We need to do more counseling that says
all are valuable to our society ..."
