ADMISSION GUIDELINES

Any person who has graduated from high school, earned a GED, or is eligible to take the GED will be admitted to the College. All applicants are required to submit an application for admission prior to the beginning of the term of enrollment.The Admission Office is located in the Anderson Technical Building. In addition, all applicants must complete an entering student survey. All applicants meeting the appropriate academic requirements and technical standards shall be considered equally for admission to the College or to any program regardless of race, color, religion, gender, marital status, national origin, age, sexual orientation, or mental or physical disability.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR COMPLETION OF ADMISSION

First-Time Freshmen (Students who have never taken college courses or who took courses only while enrolled in high school)

High school transcript or GED test results

Placement scores from an approved assessment – ASSET, COMPASS, or ACT (Students who have taken the ACT will be required to take the COMPASS assessment only if ACT scores do not meet course placement.

Transfer Students

(Students who have attended a postsecondary institution regardless of whether or not any credit was earned)

• Official transcript(s) sent from all previously attended colleges to the Registrar’s office showing eligibility to return to the most recently attended college.

• ASSET or COMPASS placement results if college level math and English courses have not been completed or if the student scored less than 18 in English and reading and 20 in math on the ACT.

Transient (or visiting) Students

(Students who are planning to attend the college for one semester only and then return to the home institution)

• A letter of good standing from the home institution indicating the student is eligible to return to that institution.

• ASSET or COMPASS placement results if college level math and English courses have not been completed or if the student scored less than 18 in English and reading and 20 in math on the ACT and the student plans to enroll in English 101 or math.

ADMISSION TO SELECTIVE ADMISSION PROGRAMS

Admission into allied health programs at the College is based on selective admission criteria specific to each program. Students who are interested in the admission criteria for these programs should contact a career counselor at the College or visit our website.

Some general education requirements must be completed prior to admission into the programs. Additional general education courses may be taken prior to admission into the programs or after enrollment in the programs.

Important Dates to Remember for Spring 2008

November 15
Financial Aid Priority Deadline. Students applying after this date must make payment arrangements and complete the FAFSA immediately at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/. See the www.westkentucky.kctcs.edu college Web site for more details at:.
December 13 New Student Orientation at 6:00 pm in the Clemens Fine Arts Theatre.
December 14 Deadline for setting up tuition payment plan to qualify for paying in three payments with 25% required down payment.

Last day to pay tuition or make payment arrangements to avoid cancellation of spring classes. AFTER DEC. 13, STUDENTS REGISTERING MUST PAY OR SET UP A PAYMENT PLAN AT TIME OF REGISTRATION.
January 7
Offices closed for faculty and staff in-service.
January 11
Deadline for setting up tuition payment plan to qualify for paying in two payments with 50% required down payment.
January 18
For 16-week classes
  • Last day to drop a course without a grade.
  • Last day to withdraw and receive 100% tuition refund.
March 1
Application deadline for academic scholarships for Fall 2008.
