The Rotary Club of Paducah presented a $50,000 check to Paducah Junior College, Inc., the foundation of West Kentucky Community & Technical College, in honor of Paducah residents Bill and Meredith Schroeder.
The presentation was made to WKCTC President Barbara Veazey during a Rotary Club meeting Wednesday, April 9 at the Irvin Cobb Hotel Ballroom.
The donation is designated for a high technology conference training room to be named in honor of the Schroeders in WKCTC’s Emerging Technology Center.
Rotary officials said the donation to the college was made in appreciation of the Schroeders commitment to Paducah and the American Quilter’s Society’s Quilt Show.
Each year, the Rotary Club of Paducah hosts the Rotary Antique Quilt Show during the week of the AQS show. Proceeds from the Antique Quilt Show fund the organization’s Rotary Education Assistance Program (REAP). Over the years, the antique quilt show has raised more than $700,000 for REAP, which provides scholarships and loan assistance to local students.
“Your vision, leadership and hard work have resulted in the best and most successful quilt show in the country,” said Rotary President George Shaw. “As a result, the Rotary Club is celebrating its 20th anniversary of one of the most successful community service projects in the state. Many young people in our community have been enabled to fulfill their career goals through our educational assistance program.”
Groundbreaking for the Emerging Technology Center will take place July 31. The 75,000-square-foot center will include industrial technology training, mechatronics, robotics, rapid prototyping, metrology, and a Haas Technical Education Center. Engineering technology and information technology will also be a part of the center’s programming. |
