Cosmetologist and businesswoman Patricia S. Robinson was named the recipient of the West Kentucky Community & Technical College 2008 African-American Legacy Award.
The award was presented during the “Celebration through Music” at Washington Street Missionary Baptist Church on February 17. The celebration featured violinist Lee England, the Butler Praise Dancers of Evansville, IN, and the WKCTC Heritage Choir, made up of gospel singers from throughout Paducah. Dr. David Summerville of Clarksville, TN, was the featured speaker.
Nominees for this year’s legacy award were Robinson, Barbara Burrage and Constance McVoy. Each received a certificate of recognition, before this year’s Legacy Award winner was announced. The College’s Office of Minority Affairs established the award in 2006, naming Paducah businessman Harold T. Alston as the first recipient.
Robinson, a native of Drakesboro, attended West Kentucky Vocational School from 1955-1956 studying cosmetology. She has received additional education in cosmetology from the Clairol Institute of Hair Color in New York City, Bruno Advance Hair Styling in Toronto, Canada, and received an advanced degree in cosmetology from Dillard University in 2001.
