For the second year in a row, Jim and Karen Marvin
of Paducah were the top bidders for a chance to Name
Your Own Endowment at West Kentucky Community &
Technical College’s annual Gala Scholarship
Auction Tuesday night.
The Marvins bid $15,000 to add to their existing WKCTC
Scholarship fund, the Marvin Family Scholarship. Hannan
Supply Co. agreed to match any bid of $7,500 to establish
a $15,000 endowed scholarship in the name of the bidder’s
choice.
More than $130,000 was raised during the auction and
the Marshall Nemer Memorial Golf Tournament held on
Wednesday. The team from Federal Materials comprised
of members Jason Stilley, Bill Metzger, Rick Leeper,
Dwight Mills and Chris Hartnett took home the top
award at the golf tournament.
Nearly 400 people attended the gala at the Executive
Inn. The meal was catered by WKCTC’s culinary
arts program.
The live auction featured such items as a week in
a newly constructed villa in Salernes, France; a catered
barbecue dinner for 30 people in the bidder’s
home; a day trip to the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail in
southern Illinois; numerous pieces of original art
by local artists; tickets for eight to see “High
School Musical on Stage” at the Fox Theatre
in St. Louis and a golf trip to central Florida for
four players at the championship course at Grand Cypress.

All proceeds raised help to fund the college’s
scholarship program, which awards more than $200,000
each year to students. The golf and gala event was
organized by Paducah Junior College Inc., the college’s
foundation.
