Karen Marvin of Paducah makes a $15,000 bid from her and her husband, Jim, official at the 2007 Gala Auction.
For the second year in a row, Jim and Karen Marvin of Paducah were the top bidders for a chance to Name Your Own Endowment at West Kentucky Community & Technical College’s annual Gala Scholarship Auction Tuesday night.

The Marvins bid $15,000 to add to their existing WKCTC Scholarship fund, the Marvin Family Scholarship. Hannan Supply Co. agreed to match any bid of $7,500 to establish a $15,000 endowed scholarship in the name of the bidder’s choice.

More than $130,000 was raised during the auction and the Marshall Nemer Memorial Golf Tournament held on Wednesday. The team from Federal Materials comprised of members Jason Stilley, Bill Metzger, Rick Leeper, Dwight Mills and Chris Hartnett took home the top award at the golf tournament.

Nearly 400 people attended the gala at the Executive Inn. The meal was catered by WKCTC’s culinary arts program.

The live auction featured such items as a week in a newly constructed villa in Salernes, France; a catered barbecue dinner for 30 people in the bidder’s home; a day trip to the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail in southern Illinois; numerous pieces of original art by local artists; tickets for eight to see “High School Musical on Stage” at the Fox Theatre in St. Louis and a golf trip to central Florida for four players at the championship course at Grand Cypress.
