2008 Duct Tape Fashion Show

Art Instructor Randy Simmons presents first prize to Andy Lipford for his "Captain Planet" costume made out of duct tape.

Captain Planet beat out Cat Woman at this year’s Duct Tape Fashion Show at West Kentucky Community & Technical College.

The fashion show kicked off the opening of the College’s 2008 Student Art Show in the Clemens Fine Arts Center Gallery. Introduction to Art student Andy Lipford took home the first place prize for his “Captain Planet, the super hero,” costume made from duct tape. Lipford was one of nine students who modeled their works on April 3. Second place honors went to Cassy Bell of Paducah for her “Cat Woman” design.

Organizers said this year’s student art show is the largest and most ambitious exhibit of student works displayed at the college in several years. With the addition of new classes, new mediums have been introduced into the show. Printmaking and traditional darkroom black and white photography make impressive additions to what has already been offered to the school’s growing art program. This year’s show also included painting, drawing, digital photography, and three-dimensional works.

The exhibition runs through the end of April in the Clemens Center, and can also be seen during the month of May at the Mayfield Icehouse Gallery.
