Stormy weather didn't stop more than 125 people from attending a retirement reception in honor of veteran educator Andrew Halford May 2 at West Kentucky Community & Technical College.

Halford, coordinator of professional & organizational development at WKCTC, began his education career as an English faculty member at Paducah Community College in 1968. The chair of the communications & humanities from 1971-1978, Halford became a professor of English in 1988. He has been coordinator of professional & organizational development at the college for 16 years.

A Paducah resident, Halford gained his bachelor’s degree from Lambuth College in Jackson, Tennessee and master’s degree from the University of Tennessee. He has served as a facilitator for Off the Shelf book discussions at the McCracken County Public Library for eight years and has been a Paducah Ambassador since 2005. He received the Phelps Award for Excellence in Teaching at PCC in 2001 and developed Leadership from the Inside, a program to train future college leaders at WKCTC in 2003.
