Darrin Thompson is studying sonography and radiography. After the first semester at West Kentucky Community and Technical College in 2011, Darren said knew he was at the right place because the faculty actually seemed to care about the students, and he loved the small class sizes.
“West Kentucky has been there every step of the way making sure that I achieve my goals. WKCTC always go the extra mile from the advisors to the faculty and staff, they honestly seem to care about you.”
As a Student Ambassador, Darrin strives to help other people to obtain their dreams, goals, and conquer their fears because as a nontraditional student, he wants to help people realize they can go to college and get a career - not just a job. He said being a student ambassador also keeps you involved at WKCTC and the community; it makes you take pride in WKCTC, and most of all, it will teach you how to give back.
The first in his family to go to college, Darrin works to set an example for his kids about the importance of education and not giving up. He said the college services such as TRIO Student Support Services, the Tutoring Center and the Financial Aid office have been instrumental in his success.
“West Kentucky really has changed my life; it has taught me to reach and dream for things I used to think were unattainable; it has given me the confidence to pursue my dreams, and it has been my life boat.”
