Circulation Policies

Borrowers

Circulation privileges are extended to college faculty and staff, students currently enrolled in WKCTC classes, Murray State University, Lindsey Wilson, or University of Kentucky courses offered in Paducah, current members of the UK Alumni Association, West Kentucky Community & Technical College District board members, and community patrons living or working in McCracken County.

A library card is necessary to check out materials.

Library Cards

To Receive a Library Card

Present a picture identification, such as a driver's license or student identification card, at the Circulation Desk.  The first library card is free; replacement of a lost or stolen card is $1.00.

To Renew a Library Card

Bring the expired card and picture identification, such as a driver's license or student identification card, to the Circulation Desk for renewal.  Library cards expire at the end of every semester.  To save time, renew your card before checking out.

Use of a Library Card

Only the library card holder may use his/her card to borrow materials.  He/she is responsible for all materials checked out on his/her card.

Holds

A hold may be placed at WKCTC if the KCTCS Library Catalog "status" indicates a date due.  Make a printout of the screen and take it to the Circulation Desk.  Present your library card.  A notice will be sent when the materials are available.  If not picked up within seven days, the items will be returned to the shelf.

Renewals

Items may be renewed by any of the following methods:

  • In person:  Bring your library card.
  • By phone:  Call 270-534-3197.  Have your library card number or student identification card ready.
  • Online:  Submit a request via your account in the KCTCS Library Catalog.

Items on hold for another patron cannot be renewed.  If a patron has overdue fines/fees, items cannot be renewed until payment is received.

Overdue Materials

Notices are sent as a courtesy to patrons.  Two notices, the first of which is a reminder, are sent for overdue library materials.  When the second notice is generated (not when it is received), an approximate cost of the material, a processing fee, and a $5.00 overdue fee are charged.  At this time, the patron is considered delinquent (see Delinquent Patrons below).  When overdue materials are returned, a $5.00 per item overdue fee will be charged.  Failure to receive a notice does not relieve a patron of the responsibility for unreturned library materials.  It is the student's responsibility to keep their current address updated in PeopleSoft.

Delinquent Patrons

Library circulation privileges are suspended for patrons with overdue materials and/or unpaid fines and fees until obligations are met.  Students enrolled in classes will not be admitted to classes and transcripts will not be sent until the library is assured that all obligations have been met satisfactorily.  KCTCS 4.23
