All Tutors' Conference

The first All Tutors’ Conference convened with a keynote address from Dr. Russ Hodges. Dr. Hodges, fresh from a sabbatical studying brain-learning, spoke eloquently and dynamically about how we as peer educators and educational professionals can utilize brain function in order to improve the learning environment and the delivery of learning materials. We followed our keynote speaker with stimulating presentations from peer tutors on subjects such as engaging the nontraditional student, an SI leader’s perspective on the effectiveness of the program, team training with zombies, study strategies, the newly implemented tutor mentoring program, and the COMPASS Program for Retesting.

As the Academic Support Center considers the success of the first conference, we are optimistic that other institutions of higher education will join us next year. Tentatively, we are setting aside the second Friday in February 2011 as our conference date. We will issue a Call for Proposals with a deadline of mid-January. If you are interested in attending and/presenting, please feel free to contact me at mason.tudor@kctcs.edu with any questions you may have.
