Internet Classes
Internet based classes are taught either
totally online or as physical class enhancements.
The totally online class has an extension that is Z. For
example, English would be ENG 101 B5Z1 and have a note
that explains that the student must have "Internet
Access."
For a current list of classes, see Schedule
of Classes. Information about getting into class
is sent from the Kentucky Virtual Campus (KYVC) West Kentucky
Community & Technical College and the class instructor
about a week before the class begins.
Most Internet classes require a proctored final exam.
For proctoring
sites, see this link. Information on individual
class requirements will be given in a class.
Internet courses: You must have an Internet provider,
active KCTCS e-mail address, and compatible word processor
(MS Word or WordPerfect). Go to http://www.elearning.kctcs.edu/
for a complete listing of all KYVC Internet courses. The
college's Web site, http://www.westkentucky.kctcs.edu/
, also provides a complete listing of distance learning
classes in addition to providing the syllabus and objectives
for many classes, a virtual course tour, and login information.
Instructions for Logging-on to a Blackboard Internet Class:
- Point your browser to http://www.elearning.kctcs.edu/
- Go to the login box in the center of the page
- The user name and login are the same as for your PeopleSoft
and KCTCS e-mail.
If you need assistance
getting started, contact Sandra Tucker at sandra.tucker@kctcs.edu
, (270) 534-3263 or William Wade at william.wade@kctcs.edu,
(270) 534-3126.
Financial Aid: Students approved for financial
aid assistance or VA educational assistance AND who are
taking KYVU classes from a school other than their home
school must contact the Financial Aid Office at the home
school (the school approving funds) to complete additional
requirements before funds can be approved.
Textbooks: Textbooks for West Kentucky Community
and Technical College internet courses can be purchased
at the WKCTC bookstore. Textbooks for the WKCTC internet
courses or internet courses taught by any other Kentucky
Community and Technical College System college can be
purchased through the central bookstore for internet courses
at http://ashlandctc.bkstore.com
. Simply log on to the website, follow instructions, and
the books will be charged to your Student Financial Aid
(SFA) or credit card account and sent directly to your
home. EXCEPTIONS to this practice are for all 'Third Party'
providers. Third party students sponsored by TAA, VA,
NAFTA, etc. will need to visit their local KCTCS bookstore
and request an order for the books. The books will be
ordered by and sent to the bookstore. The student then
returns to the bookstore, picks up the books, and signs
for the charges. Any SFA charges (including 3rd party)
can occur during pre-approved charge dates only. Actual
charge dates often vary from college to college.
