New Polysomnography Program Offered

Seven students have signed up for the newly offered Polysomnography Program at West Kentucky Community & Technical College.

Polysomnography Technology is a health care field that utilizes a diagnostic test known as a sleep study (polysomnography) to diagnose and treat sleep disorders. A sleep study is used to gather extensive data concerning an individual’s physiologic activity while sleeping.

“We are so excited to have seven new students enrolled in the Polysomnography program for fall,” said Ruth Thompson, professor of respiratory care at WKCTC.

Dr. James Metcalf, Director of the Diller Sleep Center at Lourdes has agreed to be the Medical Director for the program.

Metcalf has been practicing neurology and sleep medicine in Paducah for 30 years.

“His years of experience and dedication to the quality education of Polysomnographic Technologists will be invaluable to us as we begin this new endeavor,” said Thompson.

Students will be starting clinical rotations in October and will be using the following facilities: Caldwell County Sleep Diagnostics Jackson Purchase Medical Center Sleep Center, Murray-Calloway Co. Sleep Disorders Center, Sleep Source, Western Baptist Hospital Sleep Lab, Jenny Stuart Sleep Center, Diller Regional Sleep Disorders Center at Lourdes, and Massac Memorial Sleep Diagnostics Center.
