Applications Accepted Now from Health Care Providers for a Summer Study Course in Mexico

First Recipient Receives Basic Quilting Certificate
 
West Kentucky Community & Technical College is accepting applications from health care providers for a summer course in Mexico.

The two-week class, offered May 13- 27, is designed to introduce health care providers to the Spanish language and culture through an immersion experience in southern Mexico. Along with learning basic Spanish, the course will focus on developing cultural competence by discussing and observing the behaviors, beliefs and nursing and health care practices of the Hispanic population. Cynthia Zimmerman, first person to receive Basic Quilting Certificate.
After 20 years of quilting and working with various craft forms, Cynthia Zimmerman, 60, from Gordon, Georgia is the first recipient of the Basic Quilting Certificate from West Kentucky Community and Technical College.
 
“I always liked to sew, even as a child working with my grandmother. When I started quilting, it just seemed a natural thing to do,” said Zimmerman. (more)

Adult Education Center holds GED Graduation at West Kentucky Community and Technical College
Dana Ballard of Paducah receives her GED certificate from Dr. Paul McInturff, Vice President of Economic Development.
The Adult Education Department at West Kentucky Community and Technical College recently held it’s second ever GED (General Education Development) Graduation Ceremony. (more)

First graduate of Operation Fresh Coat
Rusty Smith, Painter's Local Union 500 apprentice trainer, congratulates Kelly Hampton of Paducah as the first to complete the Operation Fresh Coat program.
Kelly Hampton of Paducah was looking for a job when she heard about “Operation Fresh Coat,”  a program for Paducah Housing Authority residents.

The 41-year-old Anderson Court resident never expected to be the first student to complete the program designed to train people to become painters. Hampton’s father was in the painting profession, so Hampton was familiar with painting. “I decided to jump in and try it,” she said. (more)

 
 
 

Job Fair Set for March 7

  The annual Job Fair will be held on campus Friday, March 7 in Haws Gym. More than 60 area employers are expected to attend. Students, please bring a few copies of your resume and dress professionally. This is your time to get in front of employers and impress them.

The Job Fair begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 1 p.m. For more information, contact Paula Armon.
 
 
Join the Writer's Group
Do you like to write, discuss writing, or just spend time with creative people?  Then consider joining the WKCTC Writers' Group.  All faculty, staff, and students are invited to participate.  This semester the group will begin working on the Writers' Group web site, the online literary magazine, the Creative Writing Contest.  Additionally, the group will continue to share and discuss one another's writing.
