The Construction Technology program is designed to prepare students for entry level positions in the construction industry. Students examine the materials, tools, systems and methods used in residential and light commercial construction. The program includes instructional units in basic carpentry, workplace safety, blueprint reading, building site layout procedures, foundation systems, light framing construction methods, and exterior and interior finishes. The curriculum is designed to include both lecture classes and practical experience in the lab or at carefully selected on-site project locations. This program is also an excellent prerequisite for students who plan to pursue a career in areas such as construction management, civil engineering or architectural design.
Are you already working in the construction industry but need to brush up on a specific skill? With the consent of the instructor, you can take an individual class for credit, like Blueprint Reading for Construction or Ceiling and Roof Framing, to give you that edge in the workplace.
Program Standing: Progression in the Construction Technology Program is contingent upon achievement of a grade of “C” or better in each technical and mathematics course and maintenance of a 2.0 cumulative grade point average or better (on a 4.0 scale). Check out our flyer.
Students can earn the Associate in Applied Science in General Occupational/Technical Studies. This degree provides flexible alternatives for meeting student and employer needs. Credit earned through certificate and diploma program completion is applicable toward the Associate in Applied Science in General Occupational/Technical Studiesdegree when consistent with the objectives of the student’s individual plan of study.
Students seeking a diploma can complete their plan of study in four semesters by completing a total of 62-65 credit hours of technical and general education courses. Certificates embedded within the diploma may be awarded as credential requirements are met. An Associate in Applied Science in General Occupational/Technical Studies (AAS-GOTS) degree can be completed by meeting the diploma requirements and completing additional general education requirements for a total of 60-76 credit hours. Day classes are offered during two 16–week semesters (August-December and January- May) each academic year. Dual credit courses are accepted from local high school districts and allow the student to enter in their second semester of the program.
